With a community on the go, two upcoming projects highlight the City of Boerne’s commitment maintaining safe and efficient roadways for drivers and pedestrians alike.
New Turn Lane at Main/Herff
A developer will soon begin construction of a new right-turn lane at the southeast corner of Main Street and Herff Road.
This intersection improvement is a requirement of the City’s Traffic Impact Assessment (TIA) regulations, which ensure new development projects do not create added congestion and that nearby intersections continue to operate at a safe level of service for all roadway users.
“Turn lanes play an important role in separating turning traffic from through traffic, reducing delays, and improving overall safety,” Engineering and Mobility Director Jeff Carroll said. “This project is being funded and constructed by the developer as part of their responsibility to offset the traffic impacts of their project.”
This location was identified for mitigation in the Boerne Town Center’s TIA report. The new turn lane will allow drivers to turn right from northbound Main Street onto eastbound Herff Road.
Because Main Street (Business Highway 87) is maintained by the state, the Texas Department of Transportation will oversee the project, which is estimated to take four months to complete.
Sidewalk Extensions and Improvements
The City is moving forward with several sidewalk improvement projects aimed at enhancing accessibility and pedestrian safety in our community. These projects will add new ADA-compliant ramps and fill in existing sidewalk gaps to create a continuous, connected walking path.
The contractor will be adding new sidewalk and ramps at at several points along East Bandera Road near Planet Fitness, as well as sections of Saunders and East Theissen streets. The locations were selected based on citizen input and were identified in the City’s ongoing ADA Transition Plan.
These improvements are designed to make it easier and safer for all residents, including those using wheelchairs, strollers, or walkers, to move throughout our neighborhoods.
The City of Boerne appreciates residents’ patience during construction and looks forward to the long-term benefits these improvements will bring to our community.
