A Flash Flood Watch for the region is set to expire at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, but the City of Boerne will continue to monitor the weather with additional rain in the forecast.
Weekend Weather Outlook
The forecast for Friday calls for additional rain amounts of .5 to 2 inches with isolated totals of up to 4 inches. Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms continue across the area into Saturday.
This is in addition to the rain Boerne received on Thursday, which forced the closure of some common low water crossings in town. Several of these crossings remain closed Friday morning. Please do not attempt to drive around barricades.
Flash flooding remains a possibility with creeks and other flood-prone areas already holding water from rain in the past few days. Residents should continue to monitor the forecast throughout the weekend and ensure you have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts.
Event Impacts
This weeks weather has postponed or canceled the following events:
- Boerne Parks and Recreation has postponed its Family Campout at the lake until next weekend, Oct. 10. It was previously scheduled for this Saturday.
- The Hill Country Rod Run scheduled for this weekend has been canceled.
- The Boerne Book Festival is proceeding as scheduled this Saturday, Oct. 3 at the Patrick Heath Public Library. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

City Preparations and Operational Changes
Starting Wednesday, Sept. 30, City crews disconnected the power to various lights and the restroom facilities at River Road Park and along the trail. The goal is to minimize potential damage to infrastructure and facilities recently repaired after the floods in July.
Additionally, Boerne City Lake will close Wednesday evening and remain closed on Thursday out of an abundance of caution.
The Boerne Streets Department has begun to stage barricades at various low water crossings across the City. WM has informed the City they will make a determination by early Thursday morning if trash/recycling services will be able to be safely conducted.
Turn Around, Don’t Drown
While most of the rainfall will be beneficial, there could be high rainfall rates with some of these rounds of storms leading to isolated to scattered instances of life-threatening flash flooding of creeks, streams, urban areas, and other poor drainage areas.
Be alert for flooded roadways, especially at night when it is harder to recognize flooding. Everyone is encouraged to stay weather aware and remember: Turn around, don’t drown!
