Boerne Utilities crews responded early Monday morning to a water leak at the intersection of Blanco Road and Plant Street. The leak, which was reported just after midnight, involved a six-inch water line.

Crews worked for several hours to complete initial repairs, successfully preventing any disruption to water service. By 6 a.m., the leak was isolated and repaired, this allowed crews to begin additional excavation to fully reach the line, approximately four feet below the road surface.

Approximately 150,000 gallons of water are suspected to have been lost, accounting for less than 3.5% of the utility’s typical water usage. However, thanks to residents’ continued adherence to Stage 2 water restrictions and conservation measures, the leak caused no operational impact on the City’s water system.

During this time, crews noticed a nearby gas line had minor damage and was experiencing a small leak. The repairs to that line were completed in approximately 30 minutes.

Utilities crews coordinated with the Boerne Police Department to ensure two-way traffic flow during morning rush hour.

By 11 a.m. Monday, temporary repairs to the roadway allowed all four lanes of Blanco Road to reopen to traffic. Residents and drivers may still see some moisture at the site as the ground dries and some minor weeping occurs.

Boerne Utilities officials are scheduled to close the westbound lanes of Blanco Road on Thursday starting at 7 p.m. to complete permanent repairs. This will reduce traffic to one lane in each direction, while crews work. Additionally, the City of Boerne Engineering and Mobility Department will work closely with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to finalize pavement repairs on Blanco Road.
