Volunteers give thousands of hours each year to the Bookshop Under the Windmill.

Tucked beside Boerne’s Patrick Heath Public Library, the Bookshop Under the Windmill is not only a destination for readers but a powerful engine of community support.

Shoppers can browse thousands of quality, gently used books, CDs, DVDs, and puzzles at budget-friendly prices. From mystery and suspense to classics, cookbooks, and military history, this bookshop is a perfect place to explore.

“When you shop, your purchase helps fund programs, enhance services, and expand resources at the Patrick Heath Public Library,” Assistant Library Director Natalie Morgan said. “Donations also stretch the library’s budget by adding quality materials to its shelves at no cost.”

Paperback books are just $1, and many hardbacks start at only $2. Whether you are building a home library or hunting for a hidden gem, the selection is wide-ranging and constantly refreshed.

The Bookshop Under the Windmill is more than a resale shop.
The numbers tell the story of the added benefit the volunteer-driven nonprofit has on the community. Below are highlights from 2025:

  • 1,040 hours opened
  • 3,275 volunteer hours contributed
  • 15,152 visitors welcomed
  • 44,685 items purchased
  • $43,900 funded directly to the library
  • $14,549 saved by adding donated items to the library’s collection

“Every item that finds a second home through our Bookshop Under the Windmill helps write a new chapter for the entire community,” Morgan said. “The proceeds support programs, resources, and opportunities that reach far beyond our walls, turning well-loved materials into lasting impact for everyone we serve.”

Furthermore, taxpayers saved nearly $114,000 in 2025 alone thanks to the nearly 3,300 volunteer hours contributed at the bookshop.

With financial support from the nonprofit, the library averages nearly 650 programs every year and welcomed more than 197,000 visitors in 2025.

Additionally, the library saved card members more than $2.9 million last year by providing access to library materials, databases, and other valuable resources.

From long-time readers to first-time visitors, every customer becomes part of a larger story, one that supports literacy, lifelong learning, and community connection in Boerne.
