As Boerne’s Patrick Heath Public Library continues to see record numbers of visitors each year, the staff behind the scenes play an increasingly vital role in ensuring patrons receive the same level of service they’ve come to enjoy.
General Services Coordinator Libby Quintero is part of the library’s dedicated team and manages several high-volume services while tackling a constant stream of fresh challenges.
“It’s rewarding to work in a place where the goal is not just to provide services, but to make a positive difference in the community every day,” Quintero said.
Just behind the Library’s main circulation desk you’ll find Libby’s desk, and, if you’re lucky, you might find Libby, too.
If she’s not helping a patron with a question, she might be coordinating the onboarding or training for one of the library’s 120 volunteers or connecting with one of the community partners that support the library’s mission.
If you do catch Libby at her desk, she’s likely hard at work managing the flow of materials in the library’s circulation, which amounted to more than 240,000 items checked out by patrons just last year.
“A big challenge in my role is juggling a lot of moving pieces while staying focused,” Quintero said. “There’s always something new popping up, which keeps things interesting, but it also means I have to be very intentional about organization and follow-through.”
A lot goes into keeping the library operating at a high level for its nearly 200,000 annual visitors. Beyond checking books in and out, library staff are constantly problem solving, managing accounts, setting up programs, and planning the next event.
Libby started at the library five years ago as a part-time assistant before moving full-time. She stepped into the general services coordinator role in October 2024 and has been keeping the train on the tracks ever since.
While she was a library assistant, Libby started the library’s popular Book Babies Storytime, which has grown from around five participants to more than 65.
“I loved connecting with families and watching the program become something they looked forward to each week. Now we offer two baby programs a week, and they’re still just as popular,” she said.
Supporting the City’s Mission
Libby has become an asset to the library and the larger City of Boerne organization. In 2025, she was part of the first group of employees to complete the City’s Lead Excellence and Development Program.
“It was such a valuable experience to step outside my department, build relationships across the City, and really understand the bigger picture of how we all work together,” she said. “It gave me a new perspective and made me even more proud to be part of the organization.”
She was also recognized last year at the annual employee luncheon with the Library Director’s Award for her stellar performance.
Libby puts the people she serves at the forefront of her work through intentional practices, taking to heart the value the library brings to the community.
“I appreciate being part of a team that genuinely cares about people. Whether it’s helping a patron, supporting a volunteer, or working alongside coworkers, there’s a shared sense that what we do matters,” she said.
Libby moved to Boerne 12 years ago with her husband and their two children, who have since graduated from Boerne High School. Originally from a small town in North Texas, she enjoys the sense of community here in our chapter of the Hill Country story.
