Nearly 65 residents gathered Wednesday at Bakery Lorraine to discuss traffic and mobility concerns along Oak Park Drive during a community meeting hosted by the City of Boerne’s Engineering and Mobility Department and Police Department.
The hourlong meeting drew one of the largest turnouts for a City-hosted community discussion in recent memory.
“This is the largest community meeting I have seen at the City of Boerne,” Engineering and Mobility Director Jeff Carroll said. “Residents were very engaged and provided our department some key ideas that we can further study.”
Carroll and Police Chief Steve Perez outlined existing traffic and mobility constraints along the east-west corridor and explained how police officers currently monitor and enforce traffic regulations in the area.
The City has worked with neighbors for at least three years to address traffic and safety concerns along the corridor. Potential safety enhancements at the intersections of Oak Park Drive and Frey Street, as well as Oak Park Drive and Schweppe Street, are under study as part of the current fiscal year budget.
Carroll also presented potential improvement options and solicited feedback from attendees. As a result of the meeting, crews from the Streets Department installed new red flashing stop signs at Frey and Oak Park.

Among the concepts discussed were the possible installation of mini roundabouts and the addition of lighted stop signs at key intersections along Oak Park Drive.
Former City Councilman and Oak Park Drive resident Dr. Brian Fowler said he appreciated the City’s outreach efforts and is encouraged by the collaborative approach.
The Engineering and Mobility Department will compile feedback from the meeting and evaluate potential solutions. Follow-up communication with residents is planned in the coming months as the review process continues.
