A friendly rivalry between the Boerne Police and Fire departments will have a potentially lifesaving impact later this month as the community is invited to participate in the 2026 Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.

The annual campaign encourages residents to donate blood while casting their vote for either Team Police or Team Fire.

Every donation helps replenish blood supplies during one of the most challenging times of the year when donations typically decline and the need for blood remains high.

What to Expect

Bloodmobiles from South Texas Blood and Tissue/BioBridge Global will be on site to accept donations. Everyone who donates will receive a T-shirt.

Residents can expect a festive atmosphere featuring friendly competition between the departments, opportunities to meet local first responders, and special appearances, including promotional photos with Harry Hemoglobin, the South Texas Blood and Tissue mascot.

Why We Do It

Whether you’re cheering for Team Police or Team Fire, everyone wins when someone receives the blood they need.

“Every day, our officers see firsthand how quickly a medical emergency or traumatic accident can change someone’s life,” Boerne Police Chief Steve Perez said. “Donating blood is one of the simplest ways our community can help save lives.”

The event also highlights the partnership between Boerne’s first responders, who work together every day to protect the community.

“Our firefighters respond to emergencies where blood products can make the difference between life and death,” Boerne Fire Chief Manny Casarez said. “We hope residents will come out, donate, and help us make a meaningful impact for patients across South Texas.”
