Ahead of the pop flies and homeruns, City of Boerne Parks and Recreation crews have been putting in work this winter at Northrup Park to ensure the community can play ball all summer long.
The enhancements are important for the safety of the 175,000 annual visitors to the park and to ensure the best customer service experience.

Sidewalk Replacement
One of the concrete sidewalks serving Complex 1 was completely removed and re-poured. The existing sidewalk had deteriorated and was creating safety concerns for park users.
The replacement also allowed staff to address underlying drainage issues that were contributing to sidewalk failure. The new concrete improves pedestrian safety, accessibility, and long-term durability while correcting water flow in the area.

Infield Releveling
At Complex 2, Parks staff are currently releveling two infields. This process requires the full removal of the existing turf to properly address grading and drainage deficiencies. Once removed, the infields are laser-leveled to restore proper slope and drainage, followed by the installation of new sod using an appropriate conditioner mix to support turf health and compaction.
These improvements are intended to eliminate standing water, improve playability, and reduce ongoing maintenance issues.

Bond Project Update
The new press box for Field 11 was designed and constructed in-house by Parks staff, resulting in cost savings and efficient use of internal resources. Stair installation for the press box was completed in mid-January, bringing the structure closer to operational readiness.
The press box at Field 11 and other fields were completed by Parks staff members Moises Sotello, Michael Butterworth, and Paul Velez under the guidance of Kelly Wanner and Robert Estes.
Work continues on site preparation for a new bleacher pad, which includes grading and base preparation to ensure proper placement and long-term stability.
The upgrades at Field 11 are part of the 2022 Bond propositions approved by voters and includes other updates like new sod, lighting, and more.
Parks and Recreation crews expect to wrap up their work before first pitch for spring ball.
