The Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) has launched Boerne and Kendall County’s first legal kiosk at the Patrick Heath Public Library.
This new resource gives residents free access to critical legal resources without having to travel far.
“The real power of the kiosk isn’t just the technology, it’s the partnership with community hubs like Patrick Heath Public Library,” TLSC Executive Director Karen Miller said. “By placing legal services in familiar, accessible places, we’re helping more Texans get the help they need, when and where they need it.”
The new kiosk is part of TLSC’s Legal Kiosk Project and supported by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation. The initiative is designed to bridge the digital divide and bring legal support directly into trusted community spaces.
Library Director Natalie Shults said the addition of the legal kiosk aligns with the library’s mission to serve the evolving needs of the community.
“We are proud to host this valuable resource at the library,” Shults said. “Our goal has always been to connect people to knowledge, opportunity, and support. This kiosk does just that by putting legal help within reach for those who might otherwise go without.”
The kiosk is open to the public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It functions as a virtual legal aid center, offering access to:
- Live chat with legal professionals (Monday – Thursday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.)
- Remote technical support
- Legal forms and guides via TexasLawHelp.org, the state’s leading legal self-help website
- Participation in virtual court hearings
- Applications for free legal aid for income-eligible users
Resources are available in English, Spanish, and Vietnamese, with services focused on civil legal issues such as family law, housing, individual rights, consumer debt, wills, estate planning, and more.
“Legal kiosks are an on-ramp to justice,” Miller said. “For many, it’s the first step toward resolving an issue that’s been holding them back.”
