Flood Recovery: Permits may be required before repairing damaged properties

Check for permits before starting flood repairs

If your home or business sustained damage from recent flooding, please be aware that a building permit and/or floodplain development permit may be required before beginning certain repair work in the City of Boerne.

The City of Boerne will waive permit fees for repairs to homes and businesses impacted by the July 15 flooding.

Building permits are typically required for repairs involving structural components, electrical systems, plumbing, and mechanical systems (HVAC). Cosmetic repairs, such as painting or replacing flooring, may not require a permit, depending on the scope of work.

In addition, a Floodplain Development Permit may be required for properties located within a designated floodplain or for repairs, improvements, or reconstruction that may affect floodplain regulations.

This review helps ensure that repair work complies with applicable floodplain management requirements and helps protect properties from future flood risks.

Obtaining the appropriate permits helps ensure repairs are completed safely, comply with current building codes and floodplain regulations, and protect the long-term value of your property.

In addition, obtaining required permits may be necessary to maintain eligibility for FEMA disaster assistance or other recovery funding.

If you are unsure whether your project requires a building permit or floodplain development permit, please contact the City of Boerne Permitting Department at (830) 248-1529 before beginning repairs. Our staff are available to answer questions, explain the permitting process, and help you get your project underway as quickly as possible.
