The City of Boerne Communications Department brought home an award from the annual conference of the Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers (TAMIO).
The City won the Award of Honor in the Best Website category, which had no size limitations for cities, thus included both large and small communities. The project was spearheaded by Digital Managing Editor Robert Taylor.
The judges praised the communications team’s achievements, stating, “The communications team’s outcomes were fully achieved. The site incorporated the brand beautifully, is accessible, and the content is clear.” They also remarked, “Overall, this redesign seems extremely thought out and intentional. The look and flow are seamless, and the rebrand helps tie that all together.”
In 2022, the City of Boerne Communications Department began the tedious process of auditing the entire City website, updating content throughout with a focus on accuracy, accessibility, and ease of access. This work laid the foundation for the complete redesign of the website, which launched in May 2023.
Extra attention was given to ensuring the final design was just as functional on mobile as on desktop, considering more than 67% of 1.8 million website views in 2023 were on a handheld device.
“I am very proud of the effort that was poured into this project,” Communications Director Chris Shadrock said. “Robert worked collaboratively with every department in the City to ensure the redesign and information was accurate and ensured the resident’s experience when visiting the site was always top of mind.”
The conference, held in San Antonio in early June, is a gathering of municipal communicators from cities and counties across the state. This year, TAMIO had another record-breaking TAMI Awards season, with 688 entries—141 more than the previous year.
TAMIO is a network of communications professionals dedicated to informing Texas citizens of important issues in municipal government.
