The City of Boerne is making steady progress on the long-awaited overhaul of Adler Road, which will occur in two primary phases.
During the June 25 City Council meeting, City Manager Ben Thatcher provided an overview of the timeline for Adler Road improvements.
Voters approved funding for the reconstruction and widening of this roadway as part of the November 2022 bond election. The road was identified for improvements based on its overall Pavement Condition Index (PCI) of 22 out of 100, citizen survey feedback, and the need to provide drainage improvements along the critical route.

Additionally, the City partnered with Kendall County to utilize federal funds to improve two low water crossings on Adler Road by installing new culverts. The funding for these culverts is separate from the bond election funds.
“The result of the culvert project will be two low water crossings allowing the road to remain passable during heavy rain,” Director of Engineering and Mobility Jeff Carroll said. “We understand these projects are extensive, but the City of Boerne is committed to providing our community with high-quality, citizen-focused results.”
The Adler Road reconstruction project includes:
- Widening the street to three lanes including a continuous center turn lane from Esser Road to Main Street
- Ten-foot shared use path on the north side of the road with a five-foot sidewalk on south side
- Roundabout intersection at Adler Road and Plant Street
- Drainage improvements including curbs and storm drains
- New culverts at No Name Creek and Currey Creek to raise the low water crossing
Phase one construction of the new elevated culverts is expected to begin in early 2025, with completion expected by the end of that year. This will be the first work residents will see for the project.
Phase two of construction, which includes the reconstruction of the roadway, is slated to begin in early 2026 and wrap up by the end of 2028. Preliminary work, including utility relocations and right of way acquisitions, will begin in 2025. Design work for the reconstruction of Adler Road is still underway and currently at 60 percent complete.
Residents can expect routine maintenance, including the filling of potholes, to take place during the summer of 2024.
