City to break ground on Northside Community Park

Construction is set to begin on the much-anticipated Northside Community Park, with the City of Boerne and the Parks and Recreation Department preparing to break ground in the coming days.

“With City Council authorization in August to proceed with Phase One, it is very exciting to be so close to kicking off construction,” Parks and Recreation Director Lissette Jimenez said. “Once construction beings, we are expecting construction will take approximately 12 to 18 months to complete.”

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2025, at 524 Adler Road. The public is invited to attend.

Before that can happen though, the entire area – including the skate park, restroom, and fields – will close to the public on Friday, August 22, as crews begin preparing the site for construction.

The groundbreaking comes on the heels of other recent investments in the park system. Earlier in 2025, at Boerne City Park, the City created dedicated pickleball courts and thanks to funding from the Boerne Parks Association the play area is now ADA-accessible. In 2024, the community celebrated a nearly $2.5 million overhaul and environmental rehabilitation at River Road Park.

Now, with Northside Community Park, the City is taking a major step forward in fulfilling the vision Boerne residents supported in the 2022 Bond Program.

The nearly 40-acre, $16.5 million project will feature an all-abilities playscape, multi-use sports fields with lights, a dog park, pickleball courts, a splashpad, and other amenities. City officials say the park will serve as a gathering place for the more than 700,000 people who visit Boerne’s greenspaces each year.

“This park represents our community’s commitment to creating spaces where everyone  – families, athletes, and neighbors of all ages – can come together,” Mayor Frank Ritchie said. “It’s an investment in our quality of life today and for generations to come.”

The first phase of construction will focus heavily on site preparations, including extensive grading and earthwork to shape the land for park features.

Nearly three years of planning have led to this milestone, marking the start of a signature project that will expand recreation opportunities for everyone in Boerne.
