The City of Boerne is preparing an update to its residential garbage and recycling collection schedule set to take effect next week.
Starting January 5, 2026, garbage and recycling collections will move to the same day.
For most customers, your recycling day will simply move to your current garbage collection day. For others, the two collections will be moved to the same day, but it could be a different day than your current collection schedule.
RELATED: Holiday collection schedule changes
This update is designed to improve efficiency for residents and the City’s collection contractor, WM. The company regularly conducts waste and routing audits to ensure efficient and reliable service with minimal disruption to customers. Additionally, these changes are necessary to ensure reliable service collection and load balance in the trucks across the City.
Taking into account Boerne’s current and future service needs, WM has updated collection routes to provide full coverage across the City while also building in capacity to reliably serve for years to come.
Boerne Utilities is working with WM to provide new maps of collection days and additional information as we get closer to the changes.
For questions about these changes, please email Boerne Utilities Customer Care and Billing or call (830) 249-9511 option 1.
Breakdown of Changes
Majority of Residents
Residents and customers who live outside the Herff Ranch subdivision will simply have your recycling day moved to the same day as your current garbage collection day.
For example, if you currently have recycling picked up on Tuesday and garbage picked up on Wednesday, both collections would now be on Wednesday.
Collections on the new schedule begin the week of Monday, January 5, 2026.
Herff Ranch Residents
Residents and customers who live in the Herff Ranch subdivision will have both your recycling and garbage collection moved to Thursday, regardless of your current collection schedule.
The first collection for Herff Ranch on the new schedule will be Thursday, January 8, 2026. The change in collection dates was made to ensure defined neighborhoods, such are yours, remained on the same day.

Collection Day Reminders
As a reminder, please place your recycling and garbage carts at least three feet apart and three feet away from any obstacles like trees, cars, or mailboxes. This helps to ensure the trucks can safely pick up the carts.
Please have your carts at the curb the night before your collection day with the wheels of the cart toward the house.
Recycling Reminders
Please break down carboard and place it inside the recycling cart (yellow lid). No material outside the cart will be collected.

Garbage Reminders
Please securely tie trash bags before placing them into your garbage cart (green lid). No material outside the cart will be collected.
Other Special Collections
Bulk and Brush
There will be no changes to the bulk and brush collections. These collections will still be done on the second full week of the month. Just have your items at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of your recycling and garbage collection.
Hazardous Waste
Boerne Utilities customers have access to Waste Management’s At Your Door Special Collection service, which is reserved for sometimes hazardous or hard-to-recycle items.
There is no charge for the service for Boerne Utilities customers. To schedule a special collection, call (800) 449-7587 or email WM.
Rate Changes
As part of the updated contract with WM, Boerne Utilities customers will see a monthly rate increase to $24.96 up from $22.83. For residents with an additional waste wheeler cart, the rate will increase to $33.22 from $30.70. This rate includes trash, recycling, brush, bulk, hazardous waste collections and all applicable fees.
