The City of Boerne has been awarded a $240,000 federal grant as part of the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) program.

Staff from the Engineering and Mobility Department worked diligently on the City’s application. The grant funds will be combined with $60,000 from the City on a project that will:

  • Update the City’s existing Safety Action Plan to comply with all federal requirements.
  • Conduct a downtown pedestrian safety action plan to address pedestrian fatalities and series injuries near the city center.
  • Conduct intersection-focused road safety audits at intersections identified as crash hotspots.

“The SS4A grant will empower the City with valuable data on traffic and pedestrian patterns, informing our decisions as we continually improve Boerne’s mobility planning and safety,” Engineering and Mobility Director Jeff Carroll said.

The grant aligns with the goals of the City’s Mobility Master Plan, adopted by City Council in 2023, to enhance safety and connectivity. It also aligns with the Vision Zero initiative, which was approved by City Council in 2022 as a commitment to strive for the elimination of all pedestrian and traffic fatalities and injuries through strategic planning and mobility investments.

City staff will present the SS4A grant to City Council at an upcoming meeting for an official acceptance of the funds.
