The Boerne Fire Department investigated a drowning that occurred Sunday, May 24 at Boerne City Lake.
Dispatch received an initial 911 call just after 2:30 p.m. regarding a man who was kayaking on a paddle board and went under the surface and began to struggle in the water.
Nearby people visiting the lake attempted to help the man, but were unsuccessful.
The victim has been identified as Du Long, 80, of San Antonio.
Members of the Boerne Fire Department Water Rescue Team, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Boerne Police Department, and Kendall County EMS responded.
Boerne firefighters recovered Long just before 6:30 p.m. in water approximately 20 feet deep.
As a precaution and to allow investigators to work safely, the lake was closed for the remainder of the day. The lake reopened for normal operating hours on Monday, May 25.
