Boerne City Lake Park is scheduled to reopen to the public on Saturday, Aug. 1 – just over two weeks since the historic flooding on July 15.

Crews have been working each day to clean up debris and make the necessary repairs to ensure the safety of park guests.

“We are excited to have the lake back open for the public to enjoy as we close out the summer,” said Rudy Vega, assistant director of Parks and Recreation. “Our parks crews have put in long hours to get the lake and our other parks and trails back to the level our residents and visitors have come to expect.”

Heavy rain filled the lake and the Cibolo Creek, which feeds the lake, pushing both out of their banks and inundating much of the park. Water reached just shy of the park entrance road and left the restroom facility, the pavilion, and the playground under five to six feet of water.

It took several days for the water to recede so crews could access the damaged areas of the 150-acre park. They cleaned up downed limbs and other flood debris that washed into the park, reinstalled the floating boat ramp that had broken loose, and put dozens of trash cans and portable restrooms back in place.

A new septic pump was installed at the public restroom facility, where water reached over the doors. Crews also cleared park roads and conducted safety inspections of all equipment.

Lake Safety and Park Rules

If you plan to head out to the lake, please follow safety precautions and adhere to all posted warning signs.

Be aware that swimming conditions might be different than the last time you swam at the lake. The lake is now full, meaning some areas that had previously been exposed are now underwater.

Water depths are uneven and there are drop-offs under the water that you cannot see. Life jackets are highly encouraged for anyone entering the lake, especially for children and inexperienced swimmers.

Lake visitors are reminded that alcohol is not permitted at the lake. Please do not bring alcohol into the park.
