Festival Preview

As always, the lineup for this year’s Book Festival focuses on Texas and its rich History. A full schedule for the event has not been released, but a preview of some key speakers and activities is below.

Obsessed With Texas Panel Discussion

Hosted by the Writers’ League of Texas, the Obsessed With Texas panel discussion will dive into all things Texas featuring authors Amanda Churchill, James Wade, and Scott Semegran.

Churchill is an author in the Fort Worth area. Her debut novel “The Turtle House” goes back and forth in time between a small town in Texas in the 1990s and pre-war Japan. It tells the story of Lia and her grandmother, Mineko, and their fascinating lives. “The Turtle House” is available in print at the library, if you’d like to read it.

The latest book by award-winning author Wade, “Hollow Out the Dark,” was released August 20. It’s a gothic novel set in East Texas during prohibition and involves a World War I veteran pulled into a local and violent “whiskey war” to help a close friend. This book will be available for checkout at the library soon.

Austin author Semegran’s new novel from TCU Press is “The Codger and the Sparrow.” It tells the story of a senior citizen and a teenage artist forming a friendship through court-ordered community service work and deciding to take a road trip to Houston in a hot pink 1970 Plymouth Barracuda.

For the Kids

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators will have a tent full of children’s book authors. The Book Fairy will be on hand once again with fun and engaging activities for kids. Multi-talented and award-winning authors Carmen Tafolla and Diana López are joining us this year to present their latest books for kids and young adults.
